About me - Philippe Burki
It all started…
I started photography some time ago... Indeed, I started doing picture while traveling with my parents. I had a very simple Kodak camera: 'You press the button, we do the rest' kind of camera... So this wasn't probably photography, but merely recoding pictures.
But I really liked it... and this is what pushed me to take a photo course when I was at school: black and white photo shooting and processing. My small Kodak camera was not adequate for this. So I changed to a very old camera that I got from my grand parents.
... and became a passion …
A few month later, I started to equip myself: I installed a small black and white labo in the bathroom and started spending my week-ends in the dark... I also equiped myself with better photo shooting equipment and bought a Nikon F-801 with various lenses. I participated to various activities at the Cine Photo Club de Carouge, where I benefited from using the photo studio.
After my studies, I moved a few times, spend one year abroad, came back, moved again... The only equipment that I could take with me was my camera. Time, or lack of time to be more precise, prevented me to develop my own pics. Occasionally, I transformed my small bathroom in a photo lab, but this became more the exeption than the rule.
... still alive
Now, I am still taking a lot of pictures, but spending very limited time in a laboratory. Busy life... I still shoot with a standard SLR camera: I haven't make the jump into digital yet (this will probably come soon), but rather than spending time surrounded by chemical smell, I am now scanning my films and processing them on the PC (for most of them).
I have recently bought a A3 printer (Epson R2400), which I really like. I am now making my experiments, as I was in the lab, using different type of paper, and trying to find the real photo emotion that you once got with a black and white picture on baryt paper...
Time changes...
